Gingival epithelium (100X)

Microimage

At higher magnification (100X) you can study all common structures of the gingiva. At the gingival surface not facing the tooth, the epithelium contains rete pegs; extentions of the epithelium that project into the underlying connective tissue. The sulcular and junctional epithelia do not exhibit rete pegs.

There are a few inflammatory cells in the connective tissue just underneath the sulcular epithelium.
