Gingiva and periodontium (40X)

In these series of images, we're going to study the gingiva and other structures of the periodontium.

This is a longitudinal section through a tooth and it's supportive structures, the periodontium. At the lowest magnification, you can see the periodontal ligament, the alveolar bone, the pulp and some parts of the gingiva.

The periodontium consist of:

  • Gingiva
  • Periodontal ligament (PDL)
  • Cementum
  • Alveolar bone
