Lymphoid tissue of the jejunum (100X)

There is plenty of lymphoid tissue in the lamina propria of the small intestine because the large surface of the intestine is vulnerable to the penetration of infectious agents. There are therefore plenty of lymphocytes and other immune cells in the lamina propria to be able to recognize and eliminate invaders.
