Artery of the umbilical cord (100X)

This is a close up micrograph of one of the two umbilical arteries. The wall is thicker than the wall in the vein, but not as thick as you will find it elsewhere in the body. It consists of epithelium close to the lumen, then the lamina propria and the muscular layer (tunica muscularis).
