This is a closer view of the two different types of tubules:

  1. The ductus epididymidis is easily distinguished from the other tubules by its smooth and regular form and by the size of the epithelial cells. The luminal surface of the ductus epididymidis is covered by millions of stereocilia, increasing the surface area of the ductus.
  2. The ductuli efferentes are on the other hand lighter in colour and the epithelial cells creates an irregular an chaotic pattern. These tubules lead the sperm from the rete testis to the ductus epididymidis.

Thin layers of smooth muscle cells surround both types of tubules.
