Osteoblasts and osteocytes in bone formation (600X)

At this magnification you can study the "bony islands" in more detail. The surface is covered by osteoblasts (bone producing cells) only separated from the bone by a narrow pink zone. This zone is the osteoid produced by the osteoblasts (osteoid = unmineralized bone tissue).
