Tarsal glands are numerous towards the inner surface of the eye lid. The tarsal gland is a sebaceous gland and gets it name from its location within the tarsus of the eye. It secretes a lipid-rich product that helps keep the eyelids from sticking together. It is surrounded by muscle fibers and connective tissue.
