What are the two main histological features of small bile ducts?

  1. Small bile ducts in the portal triads are characterized by having a low cubic epithelium which is colored purple in a H+E section like this one.
  2. The surrounding connective tissue is virtually nonexistent.

  • bile ducts
  • artery (branch of the hepatoc artery)
  • vein (branch of the portal vein)
  • hepatocytes
  • nuclei of the hepatocytes
  • erythrocytes
