Lactating mammary gland histology (12.5X)

This section has a predominantly net-like appearance. The lobuli of the mammary glands are separated by thin strands of connective tissue (red colour in this image). Not all the lobuli look the same; some are white, some are purple. This is because not all the lobuli are in the same phase of the lactating process. The white lobules are in a storing phase, the pink ones in a production phase.
