The endometrial glands are more developed than in the section from the early proliferative phase.  You might see that the part of the endometrium closest to the myometrium has has a denser appearance than the rest of the endometrium.  This part of the endometrium is called the basal layer, while the lighter layer above, which has grown so much, is called the functional layer. This division will be seen more clearly in the next picture with higher magnification.
