Cellular cementum formation

Microimage
Image copyright: Randi F. Klinge, ARR.

This TEM image (Transmission Electron Microscopy) shows a cementoblast making the transformation into a cementocyte because it is soon to be engulfed in the surrounding cementum. One can see how the mineralization of the collagen matrix closes in on it. If you look closely you'll even see the organelles of the cementocyte.
