Cellular cementum (400X)

Microimage

The cells of the cellular cementum can easily be spotted at higher magnification (seen here). The cementocytes (cells within the cementum) look black in this section. The surface of the cells also display protuberances reaching into the cementum. These protuberances are canaliculi containing cytoplasmic processes. The acellular cementum is seen to the right in the picture and situated closest to the dentine.
