In between the lobules there is a large onion shaped structure. This is a pacinian corpuscule. It is a sensory end organ consisting of concentric layers or lamellae of connective tissue and ground substance surrounding a nerve ending. These corpuscles are sensitive to deep or heavy pressure and to vibrations up to 400 cycles a second.
